Sweetpea Sweater cont.

I have all the pieces of the Sweetpea sweater finished and I am in the process of putting them together.

Once I have it put together I will start adding the lace edges and hand stitch the flowers on. This sweater has been incredibly easy.

My recent stash acquistions.

If you haven't already guessed, I have it!

I Have The Bug

Okay, its not what you think, but I have caught the bug to knit socks. I have never knit a pair of socks before, but after reading so many blogs out there about sock knitting and seeing all of the cool sock yarn I think I'm hooked!

So I have been snooping around the www looking at all the different sock patterns. There are sooooo many to choose from.......where do I even begin?

First off I went and bought several sizes of double pointed needles and then I went on a search for sock yarn.....let me tell you my city's yarn selection sucks!! Not one single store had sock yarn. I will be in Eugene tomorrow and I am going to stop at Ben Franklin's and pick up some sock yarn.....I know that they have some. I am going to attempt to make a pair of socks and after I completely botch the first pair (I say that because I know from experience that I will) I will get online and purchase some good quality yarn.

I just wish that I had someone near me that I could lean on for help. I live in a small town and don't know too many people around here. I am a self-taught crocheter and knitter. My Great-Grandmother tried to teach me to crochet when I was 5 or 6 years old but I never really caught on but boy could I make a great chain and then I would try to turn it around to make a single crochet.....but it never turned out (now I know that I was doing free form....LOL).

So if there is anyone in the Sutherlin/Roseburg area that would like to get together and help teach me to knit socks, I would love to get together sometime.

Sweetpea

Well I am getting closer to completing the sweater for my niece. The back, 2 fronts and 1 sleeve are finished and I am completing the second sleeve. Then I will put it all together and start putting the lace edges on.

I have also been working in my yard trying to get ahead of all the weeds. We have had 3 absolutely gorgeous days in the mid 70's but I know that it won't last for long. I plan on making a trip to the nursery to pick up some wave petunias and marigolds. I will post pics after I get them planted.

We have been relandscaping our yard over the past 3 years and everything is starting to grow and fill in.

This is a picture of the backyard last summer. If I can find my before pics I will post some.

Well I am off to hooking and weaving. hehe (that sounds kind of bad) LOL

P.S......The contest to name the mascot is still running. I have some good suggestions so far. See the April 22nd post for more details. You have until 12 a.m. May 1st to enter!!

My Library

These are the books I refer to when I create something. The Crocheting School book and the Knitter's Bible are great resources. I would recommend these books to anyone that is learning to knit or crochet.

Frogging Time

This scarf is going to get frogged. I dont care for how this is turning out. It just doesn't have enough character. And the pattern doesn't do the yarn justice. Enough said!!

I took this picture a few days ago to show the progress of the sweater for my niece. This is the back of the sweater and I am almost finished with it now. I will take more pictures as I work on this.

This is the prayer shawl for my mother-in-law. I love how it is turning out. This yarn is fun to work with and I love the blend of colors.

Name The Mascot Contest

I have a mascot for my web page and I need your help naming her. Post a comment with your suggested name (1 entry per person). The person that submitted the winning mascot name will win 2 skeins of wool yarn. This contest will end on May 1, 2006 at 12:00 a.m. I will post the winner on May 1st.

Can You Say "Totally Irritating"

I was working on the sweater for my niece today while getting a pedicure (birthday gift from my mother-in-law). Well as I was pulling the yarn from the skein and crocheting away, all of a sudden a huge flaw in the yarn appeared. Thank goodness I was at the end of a row so I could just cut the flawed yarn and continue to crochet more rows. But after I cut the yarn and started to work the next row, there was a break in one of the threads in the yarn, so I proceeded to frog that row and pull more yarn from the skein. I think I pulled about 2 yards of yarn out before I got to a non-flawed section of the yarn. This was really frustrating to say the least, but I was able to continue working on the sweater. I personally have never experienced this with a skein of yarn and I am thankful that it was not an expensive novelty or wool yarn that I was working with. I am almost finished with the main part of the back of the sweater. Oh and by the way, you can make one of these sweaters too....the pattern is from the current Interweave Crochet magazine and it is very easy.

P.S....Sorry, no pics of the projects in progress today, maybe tomorrow!!

Project Update

I just started this sweater for my niece to give to her for her 3rd birthday. I am using Caron Simply Soft in Orchid.

I am also still working on the shawl for my mother-in-law and the scarf for the scarf exchange. I will try to post pictures of them tomorrow.

Happy Birthday To Me!

Today I awoke feeling very excited because it was my birthday. That excitement didn't last long however because I immediately fell 15 feet out of bed to the floor below! I badly bruised my nose, other than that I was ok, but it put me in an irritated mood.

I was still looking forward to opening my presents though. I got downstairs to find about 10 balloons all saying '7 today!'. My daughter said she was sorry but those were all she could find.
My husband gave me my first present. I was really hoping for a candy bar, I hinted several times that I wanted one. However, what he actually bought me was a squashed bannana. I have no idea what to do with a normal bannana let alone a squashed one!

Anyway I knew my daughter would get me that cd I really really wanted because I'd already told her 39 times to get it for me. I was slightly doubtful because the present was more grass hut shaped than cd shaped. I was right, she'd actually bought me a grass hut!! And not only a grass hut but a 5 foot grass hut.

I was slightly cringing in embarrassment at that point, but i could hardly contain my embarrassment when they brought out out the finger shaped birthday cake. I ate it anyway...who can resist cake?! (even if it is apple flavored!)

My birthday kept getting better when my sister gave me some handmade knitted purple bra's with little pictures of cat's and rock's on them.

The night ended on a spectacular high note when hubby popped open a bottle of pepsi for us all!
Oh well, maybe my next birthday will be better!

LOL....Just a little Birthday Humor. That's really not how I spent my birthday.
I actually woke up to a beautiful sunny day. Went on a 2 mile walk, worked in my yard, sat by my koi pond and played a couple of computer games.

Then hubby made dinner (went to my favorite pizza restaurant and ordered my favorite pizza--bar-b-que chicken). My family sang Happy Birthday to me and we ate german chocolate cake and ice cream.

I received a new computer chair, yarn, double pointed knitting needles, 5 skeins of yarn, the Interweave Crochet magazine and Knit n Style magazine and a pair of gardening gloves.

In summary, I had an awesome day!!

Golf Anyone?

Well I spent the day at the golf course to watch my daughter, Kayla, play in her match. She is a Freshman in high school and is on the girls varsity golf team. She shot a 73 today for 9 holes (par is 36). She was having an off day as she usually shoots around 55. I think the weather might have had something to do with it as it was very, very windy and rained off and on (it was very cold).

I thought I was going to get bored out there so I packed a knitting loom and yarn with me and started to get it out.....and then my daughter saw what I had and she said "MOM, you're not seriously going to take that out on the coarse with you are you? I will be the laughing stock of the team!!" So I left it in the car.

I plan on pulling my loom and yarn out when I am done posting here and get that scarf for my scarf exchange finished.

Right now I am boiling eggs to decorate for Easter. My youngest daughter plans on decorating them in the morning.

Hopefully they
will end up looking something like these.

I am a Cappuccino

I thought this was fun, although my favorite coffee drink is a Milkyway Mocha from
Dutch Bros. Coffee

You Are a Cappuccino

You're fun, outgoing, and you love to try anything new.

However, you tend to have strong opinions on what you like.

You are a total girly girly at heart - and prefer your coffee with good conversation.

You're the type that seems complex to outsiders, but in reality, you are easy to please

Spring!!! It Finally Arrived!

Finally, a day of sunshine! I took the opportunity to take advantage of the nice weather today and did some pruning and weeding in my yard and some pond maintenance.

I first took at trip into Lowe's and bought myself a new pair of pruners and a couple of rose bushes. One of the roses is called "Hot and Spicy" and the other is "Peace and Love". I will plant the roses tomorrow as the forcast is for more sunshine! Yippee!!!!

Because of the nice weather, I didn't get much knitting or crocheting done today but as soon as I finish this post I am headed off to work on a shawl for my mother-in-law. She loved the yarn I used in the last shawl I made so I decided I would make one for her in her favorite color, Purple. She doesn't know I am making it for her. I think I will give it to her for Mothers Day. She is the best mother-in-law ever!!

I am also going to start a scarf for a scarf exchange I am signed up for and I am also going to make a Harry Potter scarf for my son.

I have added a list of websites in my sidebar and if you would like to have your site added, just click on the marquee at the top of the page and send me a note with the URL and a little bit about yourself and your site. I would also love to be added to your site if you have a list of blog links.

Oh....and if you are a loom knitter you have to check out Isela's site. She just posted a new method of casting on.

Is It Spring Yet?

I am sooooo ready for Spring and Summer to arrive. I miss spending the afternoons in my yard relaxing by my pond watching the Koi swim around and the birds coming in for a dip in the stream bed.

Well it will be a couple more months before I can sit in my swing and enjoy the yard. It seems like it has been raining non stop and the forcast is for more rain. We might get a glimps of the sun on Thursday. You can check out the weather in my area by clicking the following link.

So, in the meantime I will continue sitting in the house looming and crocheting my heart away.

Projects Finished!!!

I just finished this scarf last night.
It was made with Joann's Sensations Peacock yarn.

This is a scrubber made with cotton yarn and strips of tulle.

This is the finished prayer shawl made with Lion Brand Color Waves Pebble Beach.

This is a scarf I designed for my daughter. She picked out the yarn and it was knitted on circular needles. The yarn is fun fur and RH Tiki.

Time Flies When You're Having Fun!

Wow! I can't believe its been a week since my last post. Must mean that I've been busy.

Well, I have been very busy. I have been working on the prayer shawl (it's almost finished), and a couple of scarves. I will post pictures of them later today.

Well I am off to finish my projects and take pictures.

See you back here in a few hours! :-)
